Overview

The Downtown Development Action Plan was adopted in 1999 as a blueprint for Downtown Revitalization. The plan focused on four key areas – the Washington Ave. Loft District, the Post Office District, The Riverfront and the Gateway Mall. The goal was to generate $1.4 billion in public/private investment and to establish a strong, market rate residential base within the downtown.area.

From 1999 through 2007, $4.3 billion have been invested in renovation, restoration and new construction. An additional $500 million in investment is expected by year end 2008. Residential development leads the way with over $1.4 billion invested through 2007 with an additional $200 million on the way.  Over $900 million has been invested in Sports, Arts and Entertainment; nearly $600 million in Hotels, $520 million in Office and $250 million in Public Improvements. Districts and neighborhoods are evolving rapidly and bringing new businesses, residents and development opportunities throughout downtown.
